American Apparel Customer “in the Market for a Unitard” Leaves Happy

Wicker Park resident Sheila Ellenberg desperately scoured the Chicagoland area looking for a something exotic, something cutting edge … something …in a unitard. Ellenberg found sweet release when she stumbled upon the American Apparel on Belmont and Wilton and saw the retailer's array of brightly colored spandex hanging from the walls.

“I needed something that said ‘I’m here to party; I’m a stone cold fox; and society will never understand me,” explained Ellenberg.

Thanks to American Apparel -- the largest clothing manufacturer in the U.S. known for its cotton knitwear, progressive policies and sexually confusing adverting – Ellenberg got the results she was looking for.
Ellenberg’s search was uneventful for most of the afternoon albeit a slight altercation with an Old Navy clerk over the lack of “performance leotards.” After further disappointing excursions to J. Crew, Ann Taylor and Banana Republic, Ellenberg almost gave up.

“I was seconds away from just calling it quits and a glaringly white store with red trim called to me,” said Ellenberg. “I knew something special was in there. Somehow I could just feel a long-sleeved, body-hugging leotard beckoning me to purchase it and take it out on the town for the attention it deserves."

Ellenberg entered the store and was immediately not greeted by a disinterested employee. She sifted through metallic leggings, skirt/dresses that you can wear 17 different ways, knee highs until out of the corner of her eye she spotted everything she wanted and more.

“I finally locked eyes with a placard featuring a tired looking, un-toned ‘model’ in a onesie looking super bad ass, and I thought, ‘If that tubby girl with the just-got-violated look on her face can pull it off, I’m pretty sure I can.’”
Ellenberg immediately grabbed the body suit and headed for the dressing rooms to try on her well-earned find. After 20 minutes of squiggling and stretching, Ellenberg managed to clumsily pour herself in unitard and admired her reflection. The search was over.

“I love the way it hugs every crescent of my body, displaying everything from my under-boob sweat to the mole to the right of my pubis bone,” said Ellenberg, who wore the clothing out of the store.

“I’ve got big plans for this unitard, said Ellenberg with a devilish grin. “I’d like to have it in every color, but it’s tough in this economy – I think we’re all struggling with having to cut back on the onesie budget! But I’ve learned how to dress it up with pearls or dress it down with a vintage scarf. I love it so much I even bought one for my dad!”
